24 Years in Toronto Canada
Thank you very much, esteemed audience. Today, I’d like to share how I spent 24 remarkable years in Toronto. We'll talk about how new immigrants are welcomed here, and how those who are already settled guide the newcomers, making them feel at home. Despite being far from one’s native country, one doesn’t really feel out of place in Toronto. It’s a large city with a significant community presence, offering numerous opportunities for work and business.
The population of Toronto has grown rapidly. Over the past 24 years, Canada’s population has increased from 30 million to 40 million, with most of the new immigrants settling in Toronto.
In the beginning, we had two main options. For those who preferred working in a more confined environment, office and factory jobs were available. Alternatively, there was work on construction sites, which were quite a distance from the city at that time, making commuting difficult. However, the open environment and exposure to the construction industry were valuable experiences. Today, those areas have become part of the city itself.
While construction work was hard, it paid well, and the fresh air gave us the energy to carry on. Over the course of 24 years, we had the opportunity to work with nearly every major builder in the city. As time passed, we began supplying both workers and building materials to these builders.
Many of our community members bought homes from these builders. Some builders offered builder's mortgages, making it easier for our people to buy homes without the immediate need to secure bank mortgages. This further facilitated home ownership within our community.

شروع شروع میں ھمارے پاس دو options تھے - ایک option یہ تھا کہ اگر کوئی close environment میں کام کرنا پسند کرتا ہے تو اس کے لیے factory میں کام مل جاتا تھا یا پھر construction sites تھیں - وھاں آسانی سے کام مل جاتا تھا - یہ construction sites اس و قت کے لحاظ سے شھر سے دور کچھ فاصلے پر تھیں - آناجانا بھی کافی دشوار ھوتا تھا - لیکن ماحول کھلا تھا اور پھر construction کے کام کی تفصیل اور اندازہ بھی دیکھنے کا موقع تھا - اب تو یہ سب علاقے شھر کا حصہ ھی بن گئے ھیں - construction کا کام مشکل تو تھا لیکن اسکا معاوضہ اچھا مل جاتاتھا - اور پھرتازہ ھوا میں سانس لینے کا شوق اس کی ھمت دلاتا تھا - 24سال کے عرصے میں شھر میں کام کرنے والے تقریباً تمام builders کے ساتھ ھمیں کام کرنے کا موقع ملا - وقت گزرنے کے ساتھ ھم نے ان builders کو کام کرنے والے لوگ اور building material سپلائی کرنا شروع کر دیا - ھمارے لوگوں نے ان builders سے کافی گھر بھی خریدے -
ھمارے کئی لوگوں کو ان builders نے builder's mortgage بھی دی - جس سے ھمارے لوگوں کے لیے گھر خریدنے میں اور بھی آسانی پیدا ھوئی کہ انھیں فوری طور پر bank سے mortgage لینے کی ضرورت نہ پڑی -
ایک سوال ھم سب کے ذھن میں رھتا ھے کہ کم وسائل کے ساتھ زندگی میں آگے بڑھنا کیسے ممکن ھو سکتا ھے - ھم خودکو اور اپنے ساتھ دوسرے لوگوں کو کیسے empower کر سکتے ہیں -
اس سوال کو سمجھنے کے لیے ایک community کے ایک گروپ کی ایک کامیاب مثال اور کامیاب تجربے سے متعلق بات کرتے ھیں کہ کس طرح سے انہوں نے cooperative business network بنایا جس میں چند لوگوں نے اپنی commitments دیں کہ ھر فرد اپنی حیثیت کے مطابق contribute کرے - جیسے 2 ھزار 5 ھزار 10 ہزار یا زیادہ - اگر کوئی ممبر funds کے ساتھ contribute نہیں بھی کر سکتا تو اپنی services کے ساتھ Contribute کرے اور کچھ ھی عرصے میں تمام ممبران کو بہترین کامیابی ملی کیونکہ اب ھر فرد اپنے پیچھے سو بندے کی support محسوس کرسکتا ھے - اب ھر فرد کے ذمے صرف یہ ھے کہ وہ اپنی پسند کا project تلاش کرے - business تلاش کرے - property تلاش کرے -
اور mortgage - down payment اور دوسرے لوازمات کے لیے ان ممبرز کو پریشان ھونے کی ضرورت نہیں پڑتی- اگر کسی ممبر کو کار خریدنی ھے تو انہیں ایک ڈیلر شپ کی طرف سے بڑی اچھی offer مل گئی - کہ اگر کسی ممبر نے 5ھزار کی commitment دی ھے - تو اسے گاڑی خریدنےمیں ھی 500 سے 5000 تک کا discount مل جاتا ہے -
اور جب ان کے یہ down payment - funds میں یا property کی closing میں استعمال ھوتے ھیں تو اس کا دورانیہ ایک ھفتہ سے ایک مھینہ تک ھوتا ہے - ایسی صورت میں ایک ھفتے یا ایک مھینے کے دوران انہیں پورے سال کے برابر mark cup مل جاتا ھے اور اکثر تو ان کی within the - deals گروپ ھی ھو جاتی ھیں - انہیں advertise کرنے کی ضرورت ھی نہیں پڑتی -
اگر کسی کو job کی ضرورت ھو تو چونکہ یہ ایک بڑا group ھے تو ایک ھی دن میں یعنی same day ان کے لوگوں کو jobs ملی ھیں -
اس گروپ کی کچھ activities پر بات کرتے ھیں - اس group نے فوری اور instant income کے لیے بھی بڑا اچھا انتظام کیا ھے کہ اگر کسی کو مثلاً testing کے لیے Uber چلانی ھے کہ اس کےمزاج کے موافق ھے بھی یا نہیں - تو اپنے ممبر کو جیسے تھوڑے عرصے کیلیے گاڑی دلا دیتے ھیں - اگر اس کو پسند آ جائے تو قیمت ادا کر کے گاڑی خریدنے میں بھی help بھی کردیتےھیں -
اس group کا ایک کام جو ھرکسی کے لیے impressive ھوسکتا ہے وہ خواتین کو business میں لانا ھے - خواتین کو entrepreneur بنانا ھے - ان کی ممبر خاتون جب کوئی idea لےکرآتی ھے تو یہ اس کی پوری help کرتےھیں- اسے مکمل guideline فراھم کرتے ھیں کہ business plan کیسے بنے گا - کون کون سی grants مل سکتی ھیں- banks کیسے Involve کیے جاسکتے ھیں - Federal Government کی Provincial Government کی گرانٹ کیسے حاصل کی جاسکتی ھے-

A question that often lingers in our minds is: how is it possible to move forward in life with limited resources? How can we empower ourselves and others around us?
To understand this question, let’s talk about the successful example and experience of a community group that built a cooperative business network. A few members made commitments to contribute according to their ability—whether it was 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, or more. If a member couldn't contribute financially, they would contribute by offering their services. In a short time, all members achieved great success because each person now felt the support of a hundred others behind them.
The responsibility of each individual was now only to find a project, a business, or a property that interested them. They no longer had to worry about mortgage, down payment, or other requirements. For instance, if a member wanted to buy a car, a dealership offered a great deal: if a member committed to 5,000, they would receive a discount ranging from 500 to 5,000 on the car purchase.
The funds contributed for down payments or property closings were typically utilized for a period ranging from a week to a month. During this time, members would earn returns equivalent to what they could earn in a year, and often their deals were finalized within the group itself without the need for advertising.
If someone needed a job, the group’s size and network ensured that job opportunities were often secured on the same day.
Let’s discuss some of the activities of this group. They have also made excellent arrangements for instant income. For example, if someone wants to test whether driving for Uber suits them, they provide the member with a car for a short period. If the member enjoys the experience, the group helps them purchase the car by paying for it.
One of the group's most impressive initiatives is encouraging women to get into business and become entrepreneurs. When a female member comes up with an idea, they provide full support. They guide her through creating a business plan, identifying potential grants, and involving banks. They also help in obtaining grants from both the Federal and Provincial Governments.
